Licensing: Displayport is an open standard, HDMI costs moneyīasically, HDMI is only really good for connecting to TV's. Plus, HDMI doesn't push as high resolutions as displayport, you need dual-link-dvi to push their 27"/30" cinema displays, which displayport can handle It's just more efficient, cost-wise and space-wise.
